Sustainability

Creating a greener, more sustainable community

Sustainability is at the heart of our proposals for our new residential development in Bourne. Our plans are designed not only to deliver high-quality homes but also to create a positive, lasting impact on the local environment, supporting South Kesteven District Council’s climate goals and enhancing the area’s natural surroundings.

We are committed to building a greener community by focusing on:

Biodiversity

10% biodiversity net gain

Our proposals will go beyond national requirements by delivering a minimum 10% biodiversity net gain. This means creating more green space and wildlife habitats than currently exist on the site. We plan to introduce new planting and natural habitats that encourage local biodiversity to flourish.

Zero carbon

Committed to achieving significant carbon reduction

We are committed to ensure all new homes will be zero carbon by 2030. We are taking steps to prepare for the Government’s introduction of the Future Homes Standard which will enhance the specification of our homes to achieve a 75% carbon reduction. The interim standard (Part L 2021) requires a 31% reduction. All of our homes currently achieve this standard.

Aims and aspirations

Nature

Nature-friendly design

Our unique national partnership with Britain’s largest conservation charity, the RSPB, started in 2015 and enables us to enhance our existing practices to embed nature friendly design across our developments. We include bird and bat boxes on homes and ensure hedgehogs can move freely between rear gardens using ‘hedgehog highways’.

Biodiversity

Green infrastructure

New green open spaces and wildlife corridors

The development will feature carefully designed green infrastructure, including the planting of native trees, the creation of new public open spaces, and the enhancement of wildlife corridors. These green spaces will provide natural buffers around the site, support local ecology, and offer residents peaceful areas to relax and connect with nature.

Sustainable travel

Walking and cycling routes

We are committed to promoting sustainable transport options by incorporating safe walking and cycling routes. These paths will connect the development with routes into Bourne town centre, nearby schools, and other local amenities, encouraging active travel and reducing car dependency.

Energy-efficient homes

Sustainable homes designed to lower household bills

All homes will be built using modern methods of construction, designed to reduce carbon emissions and lower household energy bills. Energy-efficient insulation, low-carbon heating solutions, and the use of sustainable building materials will help future-proof these homes for generations to come.

Sustainability strategy

A positive development for people and place

Our sustainability strategy aims to create a well-balanced, eco-friendly community – one that respects Bourne’s natural landscape while delivering much-needed new homes. By integrating green spaces, promoting active travel, and ensuring energy efficiency, we are building a future-focused development that contributes positively to both the environment and the local community.
